Pathfinder Digital Scholarship relaunched with a €150,000 fund

News

Investment in local digital talent continues to grow as, for another year, the Pathfinder Digital Scholarship is making €150,000 available to support Master’s and PhD studies in digital and emerging technology fields.

Administered by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), the scheme aims to support Maltese students in obtaining postgraduate qualifications, offering funding of up to €10,000 for Master’s degree studies (MQF Level 7) and up to €20,000 for Doctoral studies (MQF Level 8).

The Pathfinder Digital Scholarship is targeted towards academic fields that are directly aligned with Malta’s economic and digital priorities, including Digital Trust, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, High Performance Computing (HPC), Technology for Sustainability & Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), as well as other areas related to emerging technologies.

The MDIA Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Brincat said that the scheme continues to address the need for Malta to strengthen its base of digital and technology specialists. “The European Commission’s latest Digital Decade Report recognises Malta’s strong digital performance, while also highlighting the need to increase the number of ICT specialists. The Pathfinder Digital Scholarship helps address this challenge by supporting the development of the advanced skills that our economy will increasingly require in the years ahead,” said Brincat.

Previous editions of the scheme have continued to demonstrate the strong demand for advanced digital specialisations. Last year, 23 students benefited from the scholarship, with 17 pursuing Master’s degrees and 6 undertaking PhD studies.

Applications for the scheme close on the 14th of August 2026. Further information on eligibility criteria and the application process is available on this link.
