Issued Guidelines

The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) is issuing a set of guidance notes aimed at assisting Service Providers and Innovative Technology Arrangements Applicants when approaching the MDIA for registration and certification respectively.

The guidelines reflect clarifications and rationalise some processes which arose from the public consultation as well as in the formulation of the said guidelines. These are expected to be reflected and implemented as required in the ITAS Act.

✨Matul id-Djalogu tal-Mexxejja, huwa ffoka fuq politiki u oqfsa ewlenin biex tittejjeb iċ-ċiber sigurtà u ...l-protezzjoni tal-assi diġitali. Ġew emfasizzati l-inizzjattiva li qed tieħu Malta fis-settur bħala ċ-Chair-In-Office tal-OSCE.
🌍 L-MDIA hija dedikata biex tippromwovi dawn l-isforzi billi tixpruna l-kooperazzjoni fi ħdan l-UE u li hinn minnha, u tkun ta’ benefiċċju għaċ-ċittadini, l-industriji, u diversi partijiet interessati. Bl-adozzjoni ta’ approċċ innovattiv, allinjat mal-qafas tal-UE, u tippromwovi (t-trawwim ta') kollaborazzjoni, għandna l-għan li nsaħħu l-fiduċja fit-teknoloġiji diġitali.

🇬🇧 Chief Officer Gavril Flores represented Malta at the 2024 BEYOND EXPO on The Age of AI: Unlocking the Potential, held in Thessaloniki in April 2024.
✨During the Leadership Dialogue, he focused on pivotal policies and frameworks to enhance cybersecurity and protect digital assets. Malta’s international efforts in the field through current OSCE chairmanship were also noted.
🌍 MDIA is dedicated to advancing these efforts by promoting cooperation within the EU and beyond, ultimately benefiting citizens, industries, and various stakeholders. By adopting an innovative approach that aligns with the EU framework, and fostering collaboration, we aim to bolster trust and confidence in digital technologies.

L-Uffiċjal Kap Gavril Flores ippreżenta lill-akkademiċi tal-Università ta' Malta informazzjoni dwar ir-riċerka, testjar u żvilupp fil-qasam ...tal-Intelliġenza Artifiċjali u kif il-riċerkaturi jistgħu joħolqu riċerka li hija lesta għall-Att dwar l-Intelliġenza Artifiċjali minkejja li hija eskluża mill-ambitu tar-Regolament.

Aspetti ewlenin jinkludu l-importanza ta' delineazzjoni ċara bejn ir-riċerka u t-tqegħid fis-suq jew it-tqegħid fis-servizz tas-sistemi tal-Intelliġenza Artifiċjali.

Il-laqgħa kompliet b'diskussjoni ta' kif il-MDIA qed tippromwovi u tappoġġja riċerka u żvilupp permezz ta':

• Appoġġjar fl-Iżvilupp Nazzjonali tal-Kapaċità permezz ta' Boroż ta' Studju, Taħriġ u Żvilupp tal-Ħiliet.

🇬🇧 The MDIA is taking significant steps to prepare stakeholders for the EU AI Act.

Chief Officer Gavril Flores delivered a presentation to academics at the University of Malta Faulty of ICT on research, testing or development activity in the field of AI and how researchers can create AI Act ready research despite exclusion in scope of the Regulation.

Key takeaways include the importance of clear delineation between research and placing on the market or putting into service AI systems.

The presentation followed by a thought provoking discussion and identification how the MDIA is promoting and supporting research and development by:

• Supporting innovation, respect freedom of science;
• Implementing AI Sandbox;
• Establishing of research function within the Authority and establishing of research priorities to guide funding;
• Direct funding and liaison with other funding bodies to priorities digital innovation opportunities, particularly to bridge industry, public administration and academia;
• Ecosystem development through the MDIA European Digital Innovation Hub;
• Support in National Capacity Building through Scholarships, Training and Skills Development.
